The members of the visiting delegation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held a meeting with Pakistani business community here at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Vohra, who is leading the visiting Indian business group, said that apart from the governments, the private sectors should come forward and play their role in normalisation of bilateral trade between the two countries.
Vohra said that there was a resolve on both sides that the business community would influence their respective governments for an early removal of hurdles and hitches impacting the two-way trade.
He said that normalisation of trade would not only benefit the business community but also the common people as direct trade links would result in reduced prices of various commodities. The businessmen of both the countries were currently undertaking trade through, Dubai and other countries due to restrictions, he added. Speaking on the occasion, President FPCCI Haji Fazal Kadir Sherani and Tariq Saeed said that they were in favour of trade normalisation with India. They stressed the need for identifying areas of economic co-operation, launching joint ventures, outsourcing and sharing of technology for strengthening trade ties between the two countries.
The business representatives of both sides also discussed various issues related to bilateral trade. Only seven Indian businessmen out of the visiting 17-member delegation attended the meeting as rest of them, according to sources, were busy visiting factories/facilities in Sindh and Punjab.
