Inefficiency, lack of smooth working: forensic audit of railways to be completed by March

The Forensic Audit of Pakistan Railways, to ascertain the reasons of inefficiency and lack of smooth working, will be completed by March next year. According to an official of Pakistan Railways the organisation hired the services of M/s. Deloitte, to conduct Forensic Audit in pursuance of the Supreme Court's directives.
The contract has been awarded to the Company at the cost of Rs 33.920 million and the work was started last month.
The Forensic Audit is scheduled to be completed by the Firm within four months by March 20, 2013, as the Firm is being provided all possible assistance by Pakistan Railways.
The official informed that the Firm had been hired in accordance with the set parameters for contract award including inviting of Expression of Interest and pre-qualification of audit firms.
A committee comprising top officials of Railways including Chief Project and Planning Officer and Director Procurement evaluated the offers. As per evaluation report, out of 14, five firms obtaining more than 70 marks were pre-qualified.
According to evaluation criteria, the lowest evaluated offer amounting to Rs 33.920 million was received from M/s Deloitte & Co that was assigned the work. The contract agreement was awarded and 20% mobilisation advance of the contract amount was paid to the firm in November this year.
