Chief Minister Punjab Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif approved the budget and posts for the newly set up Metro Bus Authority and formed a recruitment committee to provide modern and comfortable transport facilities to the people across the province.
The Chief Minister presided over the first meeting of the Metro Bus Authority here on Monday. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmed Hassan, Chairman Planning & Development, Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority, secretaries of Finance and Transport were present. The Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority gave a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister about the operational and future plans of the Authority.
Addressing the meeting Shahbaz Sharif directed the Metro Bus Authority to operate in a professional way because the Punjab government had launched the Metro Bus Project to provide fast and comfortable public transport facilities to the masses, and wanted to expand it to other cities.
He said that due to the Metro Bus Service, the people could cover long distances in a short time. He said that Turkey had completed the metro bus project in two and a half years, but the Punjab government would complete it in the duration of less than one year.
He said that the Authority would ensure secure and comfortable bus operations, and it would also be responsible for making effective security arrangements of the Metro Bus Project.
He said that a modern system was being introduced to keep the route of the Metro bus service clean, and an agreement was being signed with the Lahore Waste Management System for this purpose. The Metro Bus Service is a great public welfare project which is being completed rapidly.
