At least five persons including two workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed while three others sustained injuries in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, two workers of MQM unit 124 and unit 119 were targeted in separate incidents near Chamcha hotel located in sector 11, Orangi Town.
They said the deceased Nadeem son of Syed Ali was assaulted on late Tuesday while Alamgir, 30, son of Ahmad, was gunned down on Wednesday. Following the killings, tension prevailed in the area where all shops and markets were closed. A worker of banned Sipah Sahabah Pakistan (SSP), Asif, son of Abdul Sami, was shot dead in the limits of Nazimabad police station. Police said the victim used to run a hosiery shop and residing in Gulbahar area. Police said he was active worker of the proscribed outfit. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A 32-yaer-old man, Muhammad Shahid son of Razi Khan, was killed in a drive-by shooting near Fountain roundabout in the limits of Garden police station. Police said the deceased might have been targeted on sectarian ground, as he had no political affiliation.
Police said the victim, who was a fabric designer, was hit by four bullets on his upper torso. An elderly woman, Shams-un-Nisa, lost her life in a firing incident near Power House roundabout. The body was shifted to ASH and later handed over to the heirs. Police suspected that she might have been killed by a stray bullet of aerial firing on marriage ceremony. Investigation was underway. Another MQM man, Hassan Ali son of Ali Muhammad, sustained bullet injuries in an armed ambush in Pirabad police precincts while Raza, 24 son of Dil Ahmad got injured in Sultanabad area.
