Taiwan stocks plunge

Taiwan stocks fell 1 percent to close at a near four-week low on Friday, with flat panel makers sharply lower on a media report that panel prices will start to decline into the typically slow first quarter. The main TAIEX index ended down 75.53 points at 7,519.93, a level not seen since late November. Chimei Innolux and AU Optronics, the world's No 3 and No 4 panel makers, both shed more than 6 percent. The broader electronics sub-index was off 1.1 percent, while banks lost 0.9 percent.
