The Karachi Port handled 100,697 tonnes of cargo comprising 53,735 tonnes of import cargo and 46,962 tonnes of export cargo including 2,533 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 53,735 tonnes comprised 11,795 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,739 tonnes of general cargo; 17,797 tonnes of bulk cargo: 501 tonnes of soda ash; 6,796 tonnes of DAP; 10,500 tonnes of coal and 16,404 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 46,962 tonnes comprised 22,482 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,292 tonnes of general cargo; 9,664 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,157 tonnes of cement and 480 tonnes of sugar; 7,510 tonnes of rice; 517 tonnes of flours and 13,524 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,533 containers comprising 946 containers import and 1,587 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 308 of 20's and 278 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 41 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 773 of 20's and 260 of 40's loaded containers while 100 of 20's and 97 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are five ships namely APL Brisbane, Naxihe, Pacific Wind, MT Quetta and Siejin with containers, general cargo, oil tanker and vehicles respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are five vessels viz Vietnam Express, APL Seattle, TS Singapore, KOI and Siejin with containers, oil tanker and vehicles respectively are currently at the berths.
There are four ships namely Vietnam Express, UAFL Zanzibar, Thorco Sapphire and Heilan Aroma with containers, general cargo and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while four ships namely Al-Badiyah, KOI, TS Singapore and Abdul Latif-S with oil tanker, containers and cement respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There are two container vessels viz Jolly and OOCL Dalian due to arrive on Friday, while eight vessels viz Wan Hai-513, Shiba, Lantau Arrow, Sea Moon, Ikan Serong, MT Karachi, Oriental Protea and Eship Liwa with containers, coal, oil tankers and mogas respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
