A group of militants attacked a police check-post on outskirts of Peshawar late Friday night. In exchange of fire at least two militants were killed and several others were reportedly injured in the incident. According to police, more than 50 militants stormed a check-post located in Zakhel area of Mattani police station, in suburbs of Peshawar with heavy weapons.
The police retaliated with full force and exchange of fire was continued for hours, as militants surrounded the check-post from different sites and pounded it with rockets. The area reverberated with heavy gunfire as the law enforcers repulsed the attack in befitting manner.
Besides, the police post was also damaged. A senior police official said that number of the casualties to the militants could be more. He, however, said that luckily police remained safe. The militants reportedly arrived through a car, when they left after the incident.
Heavy contingent of security forces reached the scene and exchange of fire continued for more than half an hour. Another official said that the police post had been established to protect a small dam which is jointly manned by Frontier Constabulary (FC) and police. In an another incident, armed militants attacked Riaz Shaheed police post on Friday midnight; however, police retaliated with force and militants escaped from the scene.
