Ministry of Railways received 132 coaches purchased from China, aimed at meeting the shortage and facilitating the passengers. Of the total 202 coaches of various types purchased from China, Pakistan Railways has received 56 coaches in Completely Built Unit (CBU) condition and these are being utilised in train of 41-UP/42-DN Korakoram Express between Lahore and Karachi Cantt.
An official source on Sunday said 76 coaches are received in Completely Knocked- Down (CKD) condition and are under assembling process in Carriage Factory, Islamabad.
He said the remaining 70 coaches will be shipped in Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) condition soon. The official said Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the purchase and manufacturing of 202 coaches with cost of Rs 15.889 billion.
