At least seven persons including two teenage girls were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents due to dense fog in different areas of southern Punjab on Tuesday. According to police, the first accident took place at Multan Road in tehsil Mian Channu of Khanewal district where a goods-laden trailer hit a private car coming from opposite direction due to thick fog.
As a result of collision, the car was destroyed completely resultantly all the five car riders including two girl and two boys were killed on the spot. The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal-requirements. All the deceased hailed from Bahawalpur. The second accident occurred at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed Road of Muzaffargarh when a passenger bus rammed into a van due to poor visibility caused by dense fog killing at least two persons, while 20 others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, Kot Addu for treatment.
According to motorways police, fog lowered the visibility to zero on motorways in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan sections. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that dense fog will continue for next two days therefore travellers should adopt precautionary measures and avoid travelling late night and early morning.
