Three persons were killed while four others sustained injuries when a police van turned turtle in the limits of Boat Basin police station. According to police, a speedy police van carried six civilians and a cop overturned at Shahra-e-Iran, leaving all the persons injured.
They said the injured were shifted to a hospital where three civilians identified as Mehmood Saleem son of Hameed Saleem, Clifford son of Francis and Umair Shah, son of Mubbashir, succumbed to their injuries. They said the initial investigation suggested that the driver Umair Abbasi took his six civilian friends, who mostly belonged to Christian community, in a police van (SP-7377), for a ride.
They said the driver lost his control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn, resulting in the death of three persons. Moreover, they said the Boat Basin Police has registered a case (646/12) against Umair for his misconduct. Further investigation was under way.
