Supreme Court disposes of 171 cases in a week

The Supreme Court has disposed of 171 cases whereas 172 new cases have been instituted between Saturday December 22 and December 28 this year. The backlog remains at 20,143 cases. The backlog of pending cases in the apex court on December 22 was 20,142 cases. As 172 new cases were instituted during the period week, the progressive total of pending cases as on December 28 comes to around 20,314. Of the total, 171 cases were disposed of between Monday, December 24 and Friday, December 28.
The Hon'ble Judges of the Supreme Court are on winter vacations, however, two Hon'ble Benches are working, one at Principle Seat in Islamabad and one at Karachi. The figure for disposal of cases pertains to these two Benches.
