Students pay homage to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto

The students of University of Peshawar and Islamia College University (ICU) hailing from Chitral arranged a function to pay tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto on her 5th death anniversary. The function attended by a large number of students of the different faculties of the University of Peshawar and Islamia College University was presided over by Vice President; district Chitral, Kashafat Khan while former tehsil nazim, Chitral, Sartaj Ahamd Khan was chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the speakers paid rich tributes to Shaheed Zulfikar Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for their services for the people of Chitral. They attributed all development initiatives in Chitral to Shaheed Bhutto, who was the first-ever Prime Minister who visited Chitral for several times.
They offered fateha for the eternal peace of all martyrs of Bhutto family and pledge to carrying his mission forward in the district. On this occasion, students hailing from Chitral expressed concern over the excluding of the students of the district from National Internship Programme (NIP) and increase in the quota for the students of the area not only in the different discipline of the University of Peshawar and Islamia College University, but also in professional seats of learning like Engineering and Medical colleges of the province to enable maximum number of students from Chitral to get higher education.
Complaining of the accommodation facilities, they called for the establishment of special hostel for the students of Chitral in the campus and provision of scholarships for them. They were also critical of the unjustified increase of Rs 500 per commuters in the transport fare from Peshawar to Chitral.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP activist and former tehsil nazim, Chitral, Sartaj Ahmad Khan paid tributes to Shaheed Bhutto for initiating record development projects in the landlocked district and establishing of commerce and degree colleges, electricity supply system and starting work on Lowari Tunnel.
He said that the people of Chitral have become fully aware of their problems and have identified illiteracy as biggest enemy of their development and urged on the students to avoid the wastage of time and pay full concentration to their education. He also demanded extension to Benazir University, Chitral and expressed concern over the maltreatment of the institute by the provincial government.
