World Bank (WB) has shown keen interest to financially assist the education sector of Balochistan, Balochistan Minister for Inter-provincial Co-ordination, Syed Ruqaya Saeed Hashmi said on Friday. For this purpose several meetings held with the World Bank officials in Islamabad and Quetta, she added.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab have availed the offer and launched various World Bank funded projects in their respective areas however, due to the follow up failure of Balochistan education department; no single project could be initiated in Balochistan. Further she said, "They were agreed to contribute with a sizeable amount for the betterment of the education in Balochistan."
Minister noted that meetings held with the Balochistan Parliamentarians in Quetta aimed at share modalities and legislators support for the launch of projects but due to lack of interest it too went in vein. Expressing grave concern over the miserable conditions of schools mainly in the rural areas, teachers and trend of nepotism and favouritism in the education department said that unless we get rid of prevailing system and introduce better curriculum we would not be able compete even with other three provinces.
