KP government plans construction of labour complexes in Peshawar, Haripur

The Khyber Pakthunkhwa Government has planned construction of labour complexes in Peshawar and Haripur districts with a prime focus to improve the socio-economic conditions of labour class.
In Peshawar , the labour complex would be build in Regil Lalma Township while Hattar has been selected in Haripur for the facility, official sources in Labour Department told APP on Sunday.
He said all modern facilities would be available for labour class and their families in the complexes. A modern Labour Complex at Nizampura in district Nowshera on 2000 kanal lands would also be built, he said, adding soon a Labour City will be constructed in Mardan on 500 kanal land to provide an improved residential facility with provision of all basic amenities of life to labours at their doorsteps.
A child and bonded labour unit at the Labour Department will also be set-up with incorporation of all modern facilities with an estimated cost of Rs 14 million.
A building for the office of the Directorate of Labour Department in Peshawar would also be constructed for which Rs 100 million were earmarked in ADP 2012-13, he said, adding that Rs 50 million has been set aside for it in the current fiscal year. The facility would help the officials in policy formulation, setting future goals and maintaining record.
On the modernisation of checking facilities and mobilisation of inspecting staff of the weights and measures cell, the government would spend Rs 28.350 million on the locally funded project against which Rs 14.290 million were set aside in current financial year.
He said the government will transform 'Working Folks Grammar Schools' into State of the Art educational institutions for providing free education facilities to the children of labour community to prepare them for tough future challenges.
To give trade and business activities, he said a commercial plaza would be constructed to generate revenue for socio-economic amelioration of working class and later offices of Workers Welfare Board would also be shifted to the plaza. Apart from it a separate commercial plaza would also be constructed for Workers Welfare Board and its entire income would be spent on the welfare of the labourers, adding all offices of the Workers Welfare Board would be shifted to the building so as to save the income of the department.
As many as 350 million rupees have been approved for providing scholarships and financial assistance to the children of labour community, he informed.
He said that labour community would be given accommodation, health and education facilities in the labour city. The government has taken momentous steps for welfare of labour class referring to increase monthly wages from 600 to 7000 rupees, increase in dower grant for marriages of their daughters, free education and health reforms for labourers.
