At least six persons, including a well-known doctor Ismail Surya, were killed in various incidents of violence in the city, police and rescue sources said on Sunday. Dr Ismail Surya was shot dead in Hussainabad area late Saturday night.
Muhammad Saeed, 60, a rickshaw driver, was shot dead in an attempted robbery near the Millennium Mall in the limits of Sharea Faisal police station. Police said that the rickshaw driver was killed when he tried to resist looting by two armed men.
Police officials said that the accused were caught by local residents when they tried to flee from the crime scene. The two accused were handed over to the police after severely thrashing them. Majid Hussain, 23, was shot dead by unidentified armed man in the Banaras area in the limits of Orangi Town police station. Police said that the deceased was shot dead outside his house by three armed men riding on a motorbike. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased hailed from Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa. Police said they believed the man was killed over some personal enmity. However, sources said that the deceased had been receiving threatening call from extortionists for the past several days.
Ramzan, 35, was killed while one of his relative named Rafiq injured during a robbery attempt at Shafiq Mor in the jurisdiction of Federal 'B' Area police station. These bandits were also caught by local people who handed them over to police after severely beating them up. The accused were identified as Saleem and Amar Yar.
Sohail was shot dead while other man named Rafiq was injured in a firing incident in Azizabad in the limits of Azizabad police station. The injured and the deceased's body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police claimed finding body of a man who was said to have been strangulated from the Rasheedabad area in the limits of Site-B police station. The man, whose identity could not be ascertained, appeared to be in his late 20s. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi.
