The Supreme Court on Friday admitted a constitutional petition filed by Tahirul Qadari under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, challenging the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and four members of the Election Commission, fixing February 11 as the date for its hearing and issued notices to the respondents and petitioners and the Attorney-General for Pakistan.
According to a press release, after going through the contents of the petition, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has been pleased to pass the following order: "In view of the important nature of issues raised, touching the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Commission, the petition alongwith CM Application, be fixed on February 11, 2013. Notices be issued to the petitioner/respondents and the Attorney General for Pakistan in terms of Order XXVII-A, Rule 1 of CPC."-PR
