Non-implementation of PPC recommendations: teachers threaten to boycott election duties

The countrywide United Front of Teachers has announced phase-wise protest movement against delaying tactics and non-implementation of the recommendations of Pay and Pension Commission.
Deputy General Secretary of the United Front of Teachers and press secretary, Tanzim-e-Asateza Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahid Mehmood has demanded the merging of the ad hoc relief in the basic pay and 100 percent increase in it. Otherwise, the Front had threatened of boycotting examination duties in the upcoming Secondary and Intermediate level examinations in the country.
He called for the implementation of the recommendations of Pay and Pension Commission to merge the ad hoc relief in the basic pay of the salary to increase salaries by 100 percent, Pay and Scale Revision, 5 percent increase in house rent and additional promotion on higher education.
He said that Federal Minister Khurshid Shah during the budget session for the current financial year had assured the implementation of Pay and Pension, but it was not implemented. He gave the deadline of February 17, 2013 to federal government for the implementation of the recommendations and in case of non-acceptance of their demands in first phase of protest on February 19, teachers from all nook and corners will stage a sit-in in front of parliament house.
In second phase of protest movement, they go on boycott Secondary School Certificate and Intermediate under the auspices of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education while in third phase they will boycott from the duties of the upcoming general elections.
He said that they have no political agenda and demanded of the government to fulfil its promise to remove the prevailing uncertainty in the teaching community. He vowed to continue struggle for the rights of government employees.
He said that the government is using unjustified delaying tactics in the implementation of the recommendations of the Pay and Pension Commission constituted by it, which is tantamount to financial murder of the government employees. He called for increasing the salaries of government employees in proportion to the prevailing price hike.
Meanwhile, head of the Welfare Section of Tanzim-e-Asateza Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khairullah Hawari has warned of legal battle in case of violation of merit in the adjustment of teachers. He called for the issuance of notification for the promotion of different cadres' teachers with immediate effect.
He further said that unnecessary delay is increasing concern among the teaching community. He called for preparation of the final lists of the teachers of all cadres. Furthermore, he also called for guaranteeing merit policy during adjustment of teachers in different educational institutions.
