50 percent of Multan city uplift fund 'pocketed', DCO alleges

More than Rs 72 billion were spent on the development of the Multan city, of them Rs 36 billion were distributed injudiciously among the victims as well as commission mafia and people became millionaire over night.
In some area victims are still crying for their rightful compensation because 50 percent of this amount went to the pockets of commission mafia, alleged by District Co-ordination Officer, Multan, Naseem Sadiq while addressing the executive committee of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) chaired by Muhammad Khan Saddozai its president.
While Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi former president of MCCI attended the meeting as guest of honour. He said that a cut-fruit seller became a billionaire in Multan with the help of corruption mafia while development funds were misappropriated or wasted during the last 65 years. He disclosed that 50 percent funds were being wasted on fudge payment. No money was spent in slum areas to redress the grievances of the poor and needy people. He stressed the need for paying proper attention towards the education sector, education in schools and colleges, attendance of the teaching staff.
DCO said that he was ready to serve the people 20 hours a day for seven days to alleviate the miseries of Multanites has said that several uplift projects are underway to make Multan city a developed and pollution free under Green Multan Project. There would no water on roads and streets in next rainy season, he assured. He called upon the industrialists, traders, and general public to inform him about their problems and proper solution. The DCO said that a comprehensive strategy was being followed for beautification of Multan city and future requirements and needs were also being kept in view for long lasting of uplift projects for the development and renovation of green belts, public parks and tree plantation.
He lauded the ideas conceived by the industrialists for promotion of kitchen gardens on available lands alongside different roads, adding that the district administration was already working on the projects. He informed that various projects were being implemented with the active participation of community and with the co-operation of local traders, industrialists and donor agencies.
He vowed that the spring tree plantation campaign would be started with new spirit and zeal by mobilising the community and the idea would be floated for adopting the saplings for its proper nourishments for bringing back the old environment of big tree in the city which had been a removed for widening the city roads in the past. Earlier President of Multan chamber presented a welcome address.
