Afghan refugees' camp in Peshawar declared illegal

District administration Peshawar has declared Afghan Refugees' Camp established in the graveyard of Tehkal as illegal and directed the occupants of the land to demolished their encroachments before February 19 and hand it over to administration.
In this connection, a meeting was held on the directives of Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Javed Khan Marwat with Assistant Commissioner, Khawaja Sikandar Zeeshan in the chair. The meeting besides, Area Magistrate, Haseebur Rehman also attended by District Administrator, Afghan Commissionerate, Additional Deputy Afghan Commission-erate, repatriation associate UNHCR and others.
During the meeting, Afghan Commissionerate and UNHCR failed to provide any legal documents relating to legal status of Afghan refugees' camp established in the graveyard of Tehkal, which was followed by a unanimous decision of giving a deadline till February 19 to all occupants, which would be followed a full-pledge operation. The administrator Afghan refugees was directed to call an 18-member delegation of all occupants to his office and asked them to demolish their encroachments and handed over the land to district administration.
The detailed report of the meeting was sent to Deputy Commissioner, who directed Assistant Commissioner for conducting a full pledge operation with the support of the heavy machinery of Peshawar Development Authority (PDA), Police force, municipal corporation, department of Auqaf, local magistrate and all additional assistant commissioners to retrieve 64 kanal encroached land of graveyard.
The Deputy Commissioner has also warned all occupants to shift their all precious house-hold items and removed encroachments to hand over the land of graveyard to administration. In case of failure in the implementation of the directives, he said that all encroachments will be demolished and the land along with debris will be handed over to the department of auqaf.
