"Don't cry for me, hope peace prevails," were the words written by Muhammad Afzal Guru just before his execution in a letter to his family members back in occupied Kashmir. The letter reached the Afzal Guru's house at Seer Jagir, a village in Sopore, after four days since his execution in Tihar Jail on February 9, KMS reported.
"It's a very short letter written by a person who was about to be hanged. How elaborate could it be? Yes, it does have beautiful messages for the people as well as the family. This letter will reveal the true character of my brother," Hindustan Times quoted Guru's brother Aijaz as having said. "In 4-5 lines, Afzal has asked his family not to mourn his death, not cry. Besides, he hoped peace would prevail after he's gone."
"We will show the letter to everyone once things settle down a bit. We want no politics on his death. We have lived through this for the past 12 years," said Aijaz, "We'll say one thing, and something entirely different will come out in the media," further added his brother. Now, Guru's family is demanding his body to be returned back to them. Guru's body was buried inside the premises of Tihar jail, where he was executed.
