The son of the late Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, Shahbaz Taseer, has been released by the Pakistani Taliban on Saturday. Shahbaz was kidnapped on August 26, 2011 by kidnapers who had demanded a hefty ransom for his release. Shahbaz went abroad after his release.
Shahbaz Taseer was abducted from Lahore on 26 August, 2011. He had left his house in Cavalry Ground in his silver Mercedes Kompressor (LZT-1) from his office around 10:15am. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore said his car was intercepted by a black SUV and motorbike around 600 yards from the office and up to three men dragged him out of his car and took him away.
One of his friends was also with him at the time of kidnapping. Shahbaz's elder brother Shaharyar Taseer said that Taliban had kidnapped his brother. According to sources, the release of Shahbaz came after the finalisation of a deal between the militants and the family of the captive.
