The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the federal and provincial governments to ensure implementation of the recommendations of Flood Commission report in letter and spirit and submit a compliance report till March 05. A three-judge bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the matter pertaining to implementation of a Flood Commission report.
A former legislator of PML-Q Marvi Memon, who is currently associated with PML-N, had urged the apex court in September 2011 to give directions to the authorities for the revival of the Flood Commission with a view to determining if the government had failed to carry out its (Flood Commission) recommendations. During the course of proceedings, the bench expressed dismay for not making the report public and directed the concerned authorities to publicize the report. Issuing directives to the federal government and all provincial Chief Secretaries to ensure implementation of every recommendation made by the Flood Commission in its report the bench adjourned the hearing of case till March 5.
