The Supreme Court on Thursday accepted the plea of Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Irfan Qadir to treat the reply as classified, which he submitted on behalf of Intelligence Bureau's Director General Sardar Akhtar Gorchani over alleged withdrawal and utilisation of the Bureau's secret funds.
A three-member bench of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed resumed the hearing of the matter on alleged withdrawal of substantial amounts from IB accounts by the PPP regimes to allegedly manipulate loyalties of politicians in Punjab and other provinces during 1988-1990 and 2008-09.
During the course of hearing, the AGP submitted the report in a sealed envelope in pursuance of the court's earlier order with the contention to keep it secret. The Chief Justice remarked that the bench would examine the report in chamber. The bench had asked Director General Intelligence Bureau Gorchani to submit a signed written reply over the alleged misuse of the Bureau's secret funds. Later, the bench adjourned the hearing of case for two weeks.
