I am pleased to learn that Darawat Dam Project has been completed. The inauguration of this dam is part of efforts that the democratic government is making to overcome electricity shortages in the country. I would like to appreciate the Ministry of Water and Power, WAPDA and all those associated with the project for their efforts to complete the construction of the dam in a record time of three years.
The present Government is working on short, medium and long-term strategies to rid the country of scourge of load-shedding and make it self-sufficient in terms of power generation. Construction of small and medium dams in the provinces and FATA is amongst such initiatives. Small and medium dams will develop a permanent irrigation system in the remote areas, where a vast barren land cannot be irrigated with the existing irrigation system. I am confident that these small and medium dams, including Darawat Dam Project in particular will go a long in alleviating poverty, mitigating floods, developing irrigated agriculture and producing cheap electricity in the country.
