Message from Chairman WAPDA

10 Mar, 2013

To day is a day of great satisfaction for WAPDA, as Darawat Dam Project has successfully been completed to give a way to progress and prosperity for the people residing in backward and remote areas. Darawat Dam has been constructed under Participatory Prosperity Projects, launched by WAPDA three years ago on the special initiatives of the President.
The Participatory Prosperity Projects are aimed at cultivating barren lands located in those remote areas which cannot be irrigated with main irrigation system. Flood control, generation of low-cost hydel electricity for the locals, emancipation of women and provision of employment opportunities are the basic purposes to construct small and medium dams.
Darawat Dam has the capacity to store more than 121,000 acre feet of water with a cropped area of about 50,000 acres of land with 200% cropping intensity by using high efficiency irrigation system. Annual benefits of the project have been estimated at more than a billion rupees. The Ministry of Water and Power, Government of Pakistan and WAPDA are implementing several projects - to cater for the increasing needs of water and electricity in the country. Similar to Darawat Dam, we are making an all out effort for early completion of these projects.
