Activity at Karachi and Qasim ports

The Karachi Port handled 282,153 tonnes of cargo comprising 147,075 tonnes of import cargo and 135,078 tonnes of export cargo including 5,554 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 147,075 tonnes comprised 58,235 tonnes of containerised cargo; 68 tonnes of general cargo; 14,006 tonnes of rock phosphate and 74,766 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 135,078 tonnes comprised 124,372 tonnes of containerised cargo; 80 tonnes of general cargo; 10,626 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,139 tonnes of cement and 7,487 tonnes of loose bulk cement. As many as 5,554 containers comprising 2,864 containers import and 2,690 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 915 of 20's and 749 of 40's loaded while 363 of 20's and 44 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,458 of 20's and 367 of 40's loaded containers while 20 of 20's and 239 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are ten ships namely Maliakos, Santa Rosa, APL Chicago, APL Brisbane, Amanda, YM South, MT Quetta, Torm Amalie, Constancy and Tabernacle Prince with six container ships, three oil tankers and one bulk cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There are seven vessels viz Hyundai Highness, Kota Akbar, MOL Direction, Cape Flores, Pamisos, Dong A Calypso and Constancy with four container ships and three oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There are three ships namely Hyundai Highness, MOL Direction and Cape Flores with three container ships respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while another ship namely Pamisos with an oil tanker is expected to sail on Tuesday.
There are two vessels viz Kota Anggerik and Independence with a container ship and a vehicle carrier due to arrive on Monday, while six vessels viz Kota Gemar, Fowairet, Lodestar Genesis, MT Karachi, Seneca and Paragon Pescadores with two container ships, a chemical carrier, an oil tanker, one steel coils carrier and one iron powder carrier respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.

A cargo volume of 120,458 tonnes comprising 87,521 tonnes of import cargo and 32,937 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,035 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 87,521 tonnes includes 25,080 tonnes of diesel oil; 10,500 tonnes of palm oil; 11,359 tonnes of iron ore; 999 tonnes of bitumen; 9,183 tonnes of chemicals and 30,400 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 32,937 tonnes includes 5,672 tonnes of cement and 27,265 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,035 containers comprising 1,600 containers import and 1,435 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. There are three ships namely MT Al-Salam-II, MV Lancelot and MV Lincon Park with furnace oil, iron ore and phosphoric acid sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while two more ships namely CV Maersk Georgia and MV STX Forte with containers and cement are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine vessels viz CV MSC Brainna, CV Maersk Georgia, MV Veruda, MV Anthea, Asian Express, MV Lancelot and MV STX Forte are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, bitumen, palm oil, diesel oil and cement respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as five ships namely Julie Delmas, Maersk Mediterranean, Bunga Aster, Bunga Malati Dua and Sea Gull-D with containers, palm oil and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are six vessels viz CV Nedlloyd Hudson, CV Sealand Washington, CV Asir, CV CMA CGM Wagner MV Maersk Mediterranean and MV Topaz-II with containers and cement respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Monday
