Peshawar Zalmi opening batsman Kamran Akmal was Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) Man of the Tournament until he dropped the catch of Islamabad United’s Asif Ali at the final of the tournament last night (Sunday). The wicketkeeper dropped the catch of flamboyant hitter Asif in the middle of the game, which proved to be the last nail in the coffin for Zalmi's chances to grab the title. Ali later went on to hit three back-to-back sixes to fast bowler Hasan Ali, taking the Duminy-led team to the winning stand. The drop catch along with four runs due to a misjudged overthrow by Sameen Gul added insult to the injuries. Pakistanis and cricket fans turned to social media, venting their anger on Akmal. A timely reminder of why Kamran Akmal, for all his PSL batting heroics, should never ever be allowed anywhere near the Pakistan team — Talat Aslam (@titojourno) March 25, 2018 You always need a Kamran Akmal to lose it — Faisal Javed Khan (@FaisalJavedKhan) March 25, 2018 Sammy: We are going to win this — Zain (@ZainMrk) March 25, 2018 Kamran Akmal receiving SAFE HANDS award on behalf of @KumarSanga2 .. Fewer still drop the final trophy with their performance. Hardly anyone can be credited with eliminating their own chances, when on the verge of a national team comeback. Kamran Akmal did all three. — Husham Ahmed (@hushamahmed) March 25, 2018 A wicket-keeper's primary job, in any format, is keeping not batting. Kamran Akmal will prove this dictum as his 425 runs in the tournament are rendered useless due to one dropped catch. #PSLFinal — Mazher Arshad (@MazherArshad) March 25, 2018 ‘How many times have you dropped important catches?’ — umar. (@UmarHehe) March 25, 2018 #PSLFinalinKarachi Kamran Akmal, that is why you've not selected in Pak team, on a crucial match you've just score 1 & dropped the most important catch. If that catch was taken Zalmi could've won the final. — Zaheer Alavi (@zaheeralavi) March 25, 2018
