Senate chief opens second Asian dental conference

Chairperson Senate Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has said that the people were the best judges and as lawmakers, they were going to approach their court in the upcoming elections for accountability. The Chairperson said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the second Asian conference on contemporary dental practice advancement, dental research and dental education at the Pak-China Friendship Center here on Friday.
Terming the completion of five-year term of parliament a milestone in Pakistan's history, the Chairperson said: "We have laid down a strong foundation for the continuity of democratic process in the country, besies strengthening the roots of democracy for peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Pakistan."
Stressing the need for research and development, he said that it was crucial for advancement in various fields. He said that the demand for oral health policy legislation will be considered and "I will support such a bill whenever it is presented in parliament".
Appreciating the academy's efforts, he said that its work of training professionals was akin to polishing diamonds. He said that the academy's effort aimed at para-dental training would help eliminate the curse of quackery in dentistry. Terming the previous conference a trend setter in the field of dentistry, he said that it was auspicious that 187 scientific and clinical papers had been presented on the occasion. He appreciated the President of the Academy of Continuing Dental Education and Research Professor Mahmood Haider, Dr Khurshid Ahmed, the Chairperson of the Conference, and other office-bearers and said that it provides a vibrant platform for dental professionals throughout the region to share ideas, explore the potential of new advances in technology, besides fostering closer ties.
The Chairperson also gave away life-time achievement awards to renowned professors and dentists of the country, including Professor Shaheed Iqbal, Professor Muhammad Younis Jadoon, Professor Chattha, Professor Brigadier Muzaffar Khan, Professor Muhammad Saeed, Professor Muhammad Zulfiqar, Major General (Retd). Shahid Shuja Qazi, Professor Yaqoob Baig Mirza, Dr Rasheed Malik, Professor Ahmed Iqbal, Professor Fariduddin Baqai, Professor B A Yazdani and Glaxo-SmithKline(received by Sohail Mateen).
