Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Geelani, said that Jammu and Kashmir since ages was a sovereign state and its people never acceded to India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Geelani in a statement issued in occupied Srinagar said that New Delhi's politics was based on hypocrisy and its rulers, opposition and media were deceiving and keeping their own people in dark.
"Ever since its existence, Jammu and Kashmir has never been a part of India. It continues to be a disputed territory. The then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir Hari Singh had no legal or constitutional right to sign the accession treaty with Government of India without the consent of majority of the state," he said.
The veteran leader maintained that with the intervention of the United Nation, a cease-fire was observed and the Line of Control came into existence.
"The then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru pledged to provide an opportunity to people of Kashmir to decide their destiny and political future in accordance with the resolutions passed by the Security Council. Since then people of Jammu and Kashmir have been struggling for the implementation of the UN resolutions to decide their own political future," he added. Syed Ali Geelani pointed out that Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, were hanged by India without taking into consideration law and moral values. He also condemned the shifting of senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, to Kot Bhalwal jail under draconian Public Safety Act, and demanded release of all illegally detained Kashmiris.
