Power system protection should be a priority: WAPDA Chairman tells NPCC

Chairman Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Syed Raghib Abbas Shah, in the wake of assuming the responsibility of Power Sector Co-ordinator, visited National Power Control Centre (NPCC) on Wednesday as first leg of series of his visits to review the power system, so as to bring in improvement through better administration and effective co-ordination.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman said that besides providing relief to the electricity consumers, protection of the power system should be the top most priority of the system managers. He directed the officers concerned to have close co-ordination not only with the power producers but also with the power distribution companies across the country for the purpose.
Terming the NPCC a nerve centre for the entire power system, the Chairman said that utmost care be taken in operating the system, particularly while shifting the load from one line to the other. He also stressed upon the need to devise an efficient protection system to avert any untoward incident. A quick responsive automated mechanism must be placed within the shortest possible time so that any major breakdown like that of February 24, 2013, could be avoided, he further said.
