President Asif Ali Zardari has deceived the entire nation by initiating the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project just a few days before the completion of the government's tenure, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday. He was addressing a group of columnists, TV anchorpersons and journalists at Model Town here.
He said that people wanted to know why the 'Zardari gang' had not gone through with the project when it had been offered by the brotherly country five years ago. Terming the initiation of the project just before the end of the government's term an attempt to bolster the image of Peoples Party, he said that it would, in fact, create complications for the future government.
Criticising President Zardari, he said that if the gas pipeline project had started four years ago, natural gas would have been available in every nook and corner of the country and the national economy would not have been in such a pathetic condition nor industries would have been shut down, resulting in loss of livelihood to a large number of people. He said that PML-N had nominated "the best and most credible names" for the caretaker set-ups at the federal and Punjab levels. He said that had People Party made better nomination, PML-N leadership would definitely have considered those names.
