Delimitation without fresh census is unconstitutional, a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Co-ordination Committee Wasay Jalil said on Sunday. He was addressing a protest rally organised by the residents of Defence and Clifton areas at 'Teen-Talwar' against the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to carry out delimitation of some constituencies in Karachi.
Protesters chanted slogans against the ECP move and were carrying placards inscribed with 'Namanzoor, namanzoor; Halqabandi namanzoor' (disapproved, disapproved, delimitation disapproved), besides urging the authorities concerned to stop feuding with the people of Karachi and Sindh.
Addressing the protesters, Wasay Jalil said that MQM and the people of Karachi had rejected the ECP decision to carry out delimitation of particular constituencies.
"We will not accept any decision against the city and its people...all conspiracies against MQM will bee foiled", Jalil added. MQM's former MNA Khushbakht Shujaat termed the ECP decision discriminatory and said that launching the protest against the decision was MQM's democratic right.
