Taiwan stocks finished 0.85 percent higher on Monday, in line with gains in other regional bourses, with HTC ending up 1.5 percent after the smartphone maker said it would launch HTC One globally by end of April. Banks also advanced 1.35 percent on local media reports that Taiwan bank executives have proposed to the government to halve the number of state-run banks to four in efforts to boost their competitiveness.
The main TAIEX index closed at 7,856.12 points, while electronics shares rose 0.86 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.063 to stand at T$29.846 to the US dollar.
