Registration of blood banks begins

With a view to regulate the affairs of blood banks in the province of Punjab, the Health Department Punjab has started registration of blood banks in the province and licenses in this regard are being issued. Secretary Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority (PBTA) Dr Jaffar Saleem said here on Wednesday that many diseases also transmit to the patients during blood transfusion.
The solution to this big problem is that only screened and safe blood should be transfused to the needy one, he added. Talking about the functioning of PBTA, he said, in future no unregistered blood bank could be operated and if anybody found violating the law, such blood bank would not only be sealed but criminal proceedings would also be initiated against the delinquents under "Punjab Safe Transfusion Ordinance." He said that there is nothing more precious than the human life and safety of human life is the number one responsibility of health department Punjab.
