The National Telecom Corporation (NTC) has issued a list of 284 former parliamentarians who have failed to pay their telephone bills, it is learnt. Sources said that the NTC handed over the list of defaulters who cumulatively owed as much as Rs 12.14 million to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP forwarded the list of defaulters to Returning Officers concerned.
This was confirmed by ECP officials on Wednesday. Defaulters included top leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Former federal minister for Water and Power Ahmad Mukhtar owes Rs 86225, Chaudhry Nisar Rs 38,000, Faisal Kareem Kundi Rs 29,000, Abdul Qadir Patel Rs 22,000, Asfandiyar Wali Khan Rs 2,244, Fahmida Mirza Rs 20,000, Maulana Fazalur Rehman Rs 25,227, while Nadeem Afzal Chan owes Rs 17,000. Defaulters also included Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Amin Faheem, Anusha Rehman, Abdul Qayum Jatoi, Mian Manzoor Watoo, Babar Ghauri and Dr Hafeez Sheikh.
