Politicians, social workers, members of religious minority groups of Sindh and their leaders have expressed grave concern over the discriminatory attitudes by government towards religious minorities and have demanded of the government to make proper amendments in legislation for the protection of rights of minorities.
Passing a long list of the resolution, the participants of one-day conference on 'Mainstreaming of Religious Minority in Pakistan,' arranged by Forum for Human Rights Pakistan (FHRP) in collaboration with Centre for Peace and Development (CPD) at a local hotel here on Friday, demanded that total number of the assembly seats for minorities must be enhanced according to the increasing population.
"Though, the minorities are given right to double vote but practically they vote to Muslim candidates, while for their own representatives, they don't have right to vote and their members are being selected by the political parties, so they are not genuine representatives, therefore such system must be abolished at once and their representatives must be elected," said the participants passing the resolution.
They also demanded changes in the syllabus, which is based on the discriminations. They said that Pakistani media must highlight the problems faced by the religious minorities. They demanded that government must ensure to implement the 5 percent quota for religious minorities allocated in public sector job. On the occasion General Secretary PPP Sindh Taj Haider, minority MPA Sindh Pitanbar Sewani, HRCP member Indar Ahuja, ActionAid Program Manager Sindh and Balochistan Shahjehan Baloch, President Karachi Bar Association Naeem Qureshi, URC's Zahid Farooq, Hotchand Karmani and others addressed.-PR
