Former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and leading industrialist Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh has formally joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) reposing full confidence in the leadership of the PML-N. Qaiser Shaikh, who is former MNA from Chiniot, made the announcement at a gathering of businessmen and industrialists at a local hotel in the presence of ex-Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
Qaiser Sheikh, who was all set to contest National Assembly seat from Chiniot, said the country was facing manifold challenges on political and economic fronts and only strong leadership like the PML-N could steer the country out of prevailing crises. Quoting the report titled "The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World", Qaiser said, Pakistan had been ranked 146th among 187 countries in the Human Development Report 2013 compiled by the United Nations Development Programme.
As per report, he said, Pakistan lagged behind in providing employment to the people as only 55 percent population to employment ratio was recorded whereas Pakistan's expenditure on social sectors is lower than some of the poor African countries such as Congo. Pakistan spends 0.8 percent of GDP on health and 1.8 percent on education.
