NICL scam: former secretary commerce allowed protective bail

05 Apr, 2013

The Lahore High Court has allowed protective bail to former secretary commerce Suleman Ghani till April 18, enabling him to appear before a Karachi-based anti-corruption court in the NICL scam. The court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Ghani and others involved in the NICL scam.
Ghani's counsel stated that his client had not been nominated in the FIR of the case, but FIA had implicated him on the basis of supplementary statements of arrested persons. He had no role in the scam but he was the appointing authority of former NICL Chairman Ayaz Niazi, the main accused in the scam.
He wanted to appear before the trial court and sought protective bail, saying FIA teams had been raiding his house to arrest him, the counsel added. The court granted protective bail to the petitioner and directed him to appear before the trial court for confirmation of his bail.
