PML-N yet to finalise candidates' names

05 Apr, 2013

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday continued its deliberations for finalisation of party candidates for Elections 2013 amid protests by supporters of aspirants of the party ticket outside the PML-N Secretariat in Lahore. The PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif chaired the parliamentary board meeting but failed to reach consensus on the party candidates from Lahore and Sialkot, sources said.
The supporters of Rana Mushood remained outside Model Town to press the PML-N leadership to award party ticket to him for PP-149. On the other hand, the PML-N is also holding talks with Jamaat-i-Islami for seat adjustment with no final outcome so far. An interesting situation arose outside the PML-N Secretariat when Mumtaz Bibi hailing from Sheikhupura climbed an electricity pole demanding retrieval of land occupied by Qabza mafia. She was persuaded to come down on the promise of meeting with Nawaz Sharif but this promise was not fulfilled.
A number of women who were deprived PML-N ticket also thronged the PML-N Secretariat. They said most of the women workers who had been in the forefront in the struggle for democracy in the country were ignored in award of tickets. The source in the PML-N claimed that the party leadership had prepared a list of candidates for all national and Punjab Assembly constituencies in Lahore but it was being withheld to avoid tension among contenders and their supporters.
