Jamaat-i-Islami to challenge Musharraf's candidature for NA-250 Karachi

06 Apr, 2013

Jamaat-i-Islami has decided to challenge nomination papers of former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) for NA-250 Karachi, JI Central Information Secretary M Anwar Niazi told Business Recorder here on Friday. NA-250 comprises the Defence Housing Authority, Clifton, Saddar, Lucky Star, Civil Lines, Gizri, and its adjoining areas.
Musharraf had hoped that MQM would withdraw its candidate in his favour though his legal, physical security and political problems have been multiplying since his arrival on March 24 ending 4 and a half years comfortable life in exile in London and Abdu Dhabi.
Niazi said JI Amir Syed Munawar Hasan has instructed JI's candidate Naimatullah Khan to file objections against Musharraf candidature in light of the Supreme Court judgement about the imposition of emergency in Pakistan on November 3, 2007. The Supreme Court is hearing several petitions on coming Monday seeking registration of treason case against Pervez Musharaf. Meanwhile Returning Officer of NA-139 Kasur has already rejected Musharraf's nomination papers for NA-139 Kasur declaring him ineligible to contest elections under article 62 and 63 of the constitution.
