United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Counsellor Todd Drennan called on University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha on Friday. The visiting US delegate discussed with the VC matters of mutual interest and areas of collaboration between the UVAS and USDA in livestock and related sectors.
Dean Faculty of Animal Production and Technology Professor Dr Abdullah and Professor Dr Muhammad Aleem Bhatti were also present in the meeting. Meanwhile, WTO Quality Operations Laboratory of the UVAS organised a three-day workshop on "Evaluation of mutagenic and genotoxic potential of different pharmaceutics and food additives."
VC Talat Naseer chaired the closing ceremony of the workshop on Friday and distributed certificates among the trainees. The workshop underscored the need for evaluation of many hazardous chemicals being used in pharmaceutical products, daily-use items and cosmetics.
The workshop consisted of various theoretical and practical sessions including lectures on "toxicological behaviour of food additives", "protocol for Ames tests", "cancer and its etiology", "gel electrophoresis for genotoxicity assessment", "toxicological behaviour of pharmaceutical effluents" and "cytotoxic evaluation". Postgraduate students, researchers and teachers from the UVAS, GC University Lahore and Lahore College for Women University participated in the workshop.
