Chairman of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Mahesh Kumar has said that federal government has released the funds for cotton ginning institute Multan, which would be established during the current years. Presiding over a meeting of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) at Central Cotton research institute on Friday, he said that ministry of finance had allocated the estimated cost of Rs 179 million on the recommendations of Ministry of Textile Industry.
The setting up of the research institute is a part of the government's aim to modernise and increase the productivity of ginning factories in the country. "We will be constructing a ginning research institute in Multan to increase the productivity of the ginning sector in the country." Mahesh Kumar said. Talking about the benefits of the new research institute to cotton ginners, he said, "The ginning research institute will provide training to the workers in the ginning factories."
He further said "The research institute will also work on modernising and increasing the productivity of 1200 cotton ginning factories in Pakistan." The Committee expressed its concern on the decay in cotton production in Pakistan and urged upon the agricultural scientists to explore the causes of decay and find a solution for increasing the cotton production, which is main source of exports. The agricultural scientists chalked out a research programme for 2013-14 which was approved by the committee after a long discussion.
