Zardari terms ROs' role improper

Terming the attitude of the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Returning Officers impro-per, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that he had constitutional powers, but he has abstained from using them, avoiding sending any wrong impression. President Zaradri stated this during a meeting with the Governor and interim chief minister of Sindh as well as members of provincial cabinet in Karachi.
Institutions, he said, should not forget that "I have constitutional powers", President Zardari asserted.
He also made it clear that timely and transparent election was his top priority and that the interim government had little time and its top priority would also be holding elections.
The transfer of power would also be transparent, President Zardari said, adding the maintaining law and order should be the top priority of the interim government during elections.
Law enforcement agencies, he said, could be strengthened if they were provided with maximum possible resources. All resources should be utilised to improve the morale of the police and latest equipment should be provided to bomb disposal squads, he said. The president also directed to enhance the police force and inducting more personnel in the police department based on merit.
