Punjab chief minister reviews anti-polio campaign

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi has said that anti-polio campaign should continue effectively in the province and the parents should protect the future of their children by getting polio drops administered to them. He said polio is a dangerous disease and might result in permanent disability. Therefore, the Punjab government is vigorously pursuing anti-polio campaign throughout the province.
However, there is a need to create awareness among the people regarding anti-polio campaign, he added. He was presiding over a high level meeting held to review the anti-polio campaign in the province here on Monday, disclosed an official. Provincial Minister for Health Salima Hashmi, Secretary Health, IG Police Punjab, representatives of World Health Organisation and Unicef as well as authorities concerned attended the meeting.
Najam Sethi said a comprehensive awareness campaign should be launched for administering anti-polio drops and special attention should be paid to backward areas in this regard. He directed that anti-polio campaign should be launched regularly in those cities which are sensitive with regard to this disease and suburbs of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Lahore should be focused.
