NA and Sindh Assembly seats: 5,765 nomination papers accepted in Sindh

A total of 5,765 nomination papers filed by candidates for 168 Sindh Assembly seats and 61 National Assembly seat (from Sindh) were accepted by Returning Officers while nomination papers of 1,455 candidates were rejected after the scrutiny process.
The nomination papers were scrutinised by Returning Officers from April 1 to 7 and April 10 is last date for filing of appeals against the decisions of Returning Officers to reject/accept the nomination papers. The tribunals would decide the appeals by April 17. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by April 18 and the final list of candidates would be published on April 19, 2013.
Sindh Assembly has a total of 168 seats including 130 general, 29 reserved for women and 9 reserved for minorities. Sindh has 61 general seats in the National Assembly (except share in 60 reserved seats for women and 10 for minorities).
According to the list of candidates compiled by Provincial Election Commission, nomination papers of 5,765 candidates were accepted after completion of scrutiny process.
As many as 2,007 nomination papers were submitted on National Assembly seats and 5,213 for Sindh Assembly seats including reserved seats for women and minorities.
After the scrutiny, 388 nomination papers of NA candidates and 1,067 papers of PA candidates were rejected while 1,619 candidates were cleared for NA and 4,146 candidates for PA.
When asked a senior official of Provincial Election Commission told Business Recorder that he could not say anything as how many rejected nomination papers would be accepted or accepted papers would be rejected by the tribunals.
