Interior minister urged to step down voluntarily

10 Apr, 2013

Sumsam Bukhari, Central Information Secretary PPPP, contesting election from NA:145, has urged the Interior Minister Malik Habib to step aside voluntarily for making partisan public comments in favour of a leader of the political party.
He has violated the mandate of the caretaker cabinet installed to ensure fair, free and impartial elections in the country, he argued.
He added if the Malik does not resign from the important portfolio of Ministry of Interior then the Prime Minister himself should take action against him in the largest interest of the forthcoming elections and also for maintaining the worthwhile cause of neutrality and impartiality of his cabinet.
He said that the other major political parties had also raised their concerns against the Interior Minister and therefore it was obligatory on the Prime Minister to sack him and thus save the sanctity of his cabinet, which had been badly bruised by his naivety or design. His utterance is inexcusable, he maintained.
He disclosed that the PPPP's legal team was busy in framing the reference against the Interior Minister for filing in the Election Commission of Pakistan either today or tomorrow suggesting the ECP to remove the Interior Minister for his ultra vires conduct as an Interior Minister of the caretaker cabinet.
He said that it was important that the forthcoming elections are held not only as fair, free and impartial but also be seen so because of their criticality for the future of democracy and the federation.
