"Marble and granite is our natural wealth which needs to be exploited for socio economic development and poverty alleviation in the country." Caretaker Federal Minister for Industries and Production Shahzada Ahsan Ashraf Sheikh said this while speaking during a briefing session on marble and granite sector development at Pakistan Stone Development Company (Pasdec) Head Office on Tuesday.
He said Pakistan was blessed with enormous reserves of marble and granite which had unique shades, and colours. Apart from adopting mechanized quarrying methods and value addition "we should focus on effective marketing strategy to fetch big orders from international market", he added.
Pasdec CEO Ihsanullah Khan briefed the Caretaker Federal Minister for Industries and Production about sector development projects established by Pasdec during short span of time. He informed that Pasdec had introduced mechanized quarrying in Pakistan and had replaced orthodox practices of quarrying with state of the art machinery.
Besides modern quarrying and processing, Pasdec was also striving hard to explore new global markets for marble and granite export, he added.-PR
