The Sindh caretaker Minister for Environment and Alternate Energy, Sharif Ansari has said that unawareness and inefficient disposal of solid waste and sewer effluent are main hurdles in maintaining the pollution free society.
He said that modalities were being worked out and same to be recommended to the Provincial Education Department to include environmental subject in the primary and secondary syllabus, to bring awareness and behavioural change in the society. This he said while addressing the meeting of officers and staff members of Environmental Protection Agency Hyderabad at their office on Wednesday.
He said that strategy to divert the attention of the common man towards environmental issues, is being replaced by modern methodology. He said that his department is planning to observe Global Earth Day on April 22, by sending gas pressure big balloons carrying messages of environmental free society into the air at Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur in addition to other activities.
Taking the serious notice of broken roads special one side of Auto Bhan Road, Railway underpass at Giddu Chowk and Latifabad Unit No 7 and Shah Makki Road at Hyderabad, the caretaker minister informed that he has directed the authority concerned for repairing the same urgently as in present situation, it not only causing difficulties for smooth traffic flow but also creating pollution problem for residential as well as commercial area.
He also directed the officers of Wasa for covering all open main holes and to ensure efficient drainage system to avoid any over follow on the roads and streets. He directed the management of Malaria Control Programme for conducting fortnightly duty mosquito spray in all urban areas repeatedly.
He said that environment protection was not only the job of his department but all stakeholders and civic society has to contribute in this regard. He said that almost all government, semi government, autonomous bodies and organizations in private sectors were the stakeholders and have link in creating or resolving the environmental issues. Caretaker minister further said that though we can't replace the whole system during the period of caretaker government but can set a proper guideline for coming government and resolve the issues of immediate nature.
