Supreme Court disposes of 233 cases in a week

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 233 cases whereas 402 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday (April 06, 2013) to Friday (April 12, 2013). The backlog remains 19092. The backlog in the Apex Court on April 05, 2013 was 18923 cases. As 402 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday (April 06, 2013) to Friday (April 12, 2013), the progressive total of pending cases on April 12, 2013 came to 19325 cases.
Out of these, 233 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday (April 08, 2013) to Friday (April 12, 2013). The backlog on April 12, 2013 remains 19092 cases. The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registry Karachi to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. The CJP and the judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The judges continued to hear the cases with the aim to minimise the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
