Industries in Sindh to get gas six days a week

17 Apr, 2013

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Tuesday announced to provide gas six days a week to all industries. Over the past three months, local industrial units were facing a two-day gas shutdown. On January 4, SSGC had announced two-day outage of gas supply to all industries throughout the province.
The decision was reversed on the request of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA). SSGC said it would end its two-day gas holiday from April 14. Now gas holiday will be on every Sunday, instead of every Saturday and Sunday. Chairman of APTMA's Sindh-Balochistan Region Yasin Siddik welcomed the SSGC move and said that it would directly benefit the national economy.
"The two-day disconnection of gas supply to the industry not only hurt industrial production but it also damaged the country's exports," he maintained. "The domestic industry has the potential to meet all export targets set by the government. But, uninterrupted supply of gas and power was crucial in this regard." he said. Yasin Siddik also urged the SSGC to entirely end the load shedding of gas.
